The Hunchback of Notre Dame is a musical based on Victor Hugo's novel. It also uses songs from the Disney movie with the same name. In addition, the musical features new songs written by Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz. The new book by Peter Parnell incorporates elements of story theater and includes passages taken directly from Victor Hugo's Gothic novel.

The renowned bells of Notre Dame can be heard at the beginning of the musical, which is set in Paris in the fifteenth century. Quasimodo, the deformed bell-ringer who yearns to be "Out There," watches the entire city of Paris as it celebrates the Feast of Fools. After being held captive by his cunning caretaker, the archdeacon Dom Claude Frollo, he manages to break free for the day and join the rowdy crowd, only to be treated cruelly by everyone there with the exception of the beautiful Romani woman, Esmeralda. However, Quasimodo isn't the only one who is enthralled by her uninhibited nature; the dashing Captain Phoebus and Frollo are also completely taken aback by her. Frollo sets out on a mission to exterminate the Roma while the other three are competing for her attention; it is up to Quasimodo to save them all.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame became an instant classic thanks to its grandiose score and emotionally moving story. The audience will be enchanted by the magic of this truly unforgettable musical, from which they will not want to leave.
